While there is plenty of news about Apple’s
upcoming iPhone 7, there indeed very little news about its
highly-anticipated refresh to its MacBook line up. Well, fresh news
comes from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, that reveals a mid May launch date and some ‘ultra-thin’ MacBook designs.
Everyone knows that Apple’s MacBook lineup has not seen a design refresh for many years now. In fact, the company’s MacBook Air lineup years after it launch is finally losing its charm thanks to the plethora of look-a-likes showing up from its Windows-powered competitors.
The launch of the 2015 MacBook was indeed an indicator that things will be changing for the better and that it may be a sign of things to come.
While earlier rumours pointed out that Apple is working with suppliers to completely revamp and “fully redesign” its MacBook lineup, Digitimes reports that one of those big changes are due Apple’s move from the standard hinges, to metal injection mold-made hinges.
The result of the new process will not only allow the laptops to save space with the smaller hinges, but also achieve an “ultra-thin” design.
The hinges according to MacRumours come from Amphenol a company that specializes in making tiny hinges that are usually reserved for mobile phones. More so, this supplier also happens to be the same one in charge of parts of the hinges that hide inside Microsoft’s Surface 4 range. As of now, there is no idea as to which MacBook is Digitimes referring to. Other expected upgrades also include Intel’s new Skylake chips while the MacBook Air lineup is also expected to arrive in a 15-inch form factor.
