At its recent Build 2016 developer conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella showcased how bots would help create new experiences for the user. It had rolled out a preview with a new Skype client being available on Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad for users to experience Skype Bots.
Microsoft announced on its official Skype blog that preview Skype Bots are now available on two more platforms: Mac and Web. To get started on Mac, users can tap on the ‘Contacts’ from the menu and select ‘Add Bot’ to search for or view a list of available bots.
Skype for Web users can select ‘Discover Bots’ on the left toolbar to see a list of available Bots.
The new Bots that Skype is introducing include Murphy, a Bot to find and create images for when a user cannot express something by words alone. Summarize is a Bot designed to give an overview of a web page if the user doesn’t have time to read the whole thing.
Microsoft’s Cortana is also programmed to talk to Bots. For instance Cortana could help a user find information, manage calendar and connect to other Bots that are relevant to the user, all without leaving Skype. Microsoft also introduced a new interaction on Skype – Skype Video Bots that would bring in more useful interactions into video calling, maybe more intelligence into real-time video.
