Police claimed to have busted a militant module by arresting four local youth allegedly involved in recent grenade attacks in Bijbehara town of this South Kashmir district.
Suspected militants had on March 26 and April 8 carried attacks on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway in the town. While two army men and a civilian were injured in the first grenade attack near police station Bijbehara, two civilians were injured in the latest one at Goriwan market.
Following the attacks police had launched thorough investigations.
“CCTV footage, phone details and human intelligence were used to track down the movement of the suspected people,” a police official said.
He said that the police zeroed in on some suspects and four of them have been arrested.
“One grenade has been recovered from the possession of arrested youth,” the police official said.
The arrested people have been booked under various sections including 7/25 Arms Act and 307 RPC (attempt to murder) and are being interrogated.
Police have identified the arrested youth as Safdar Ahmad, Muzzafar Sofi, Arif Darsaroo - all from Bijbehara town - and Ghulam Muhuddin Sheikh of Mehand village - presently residing in Hatigam village of Bijbehara.
“The investigations are on and in coming days further arrests are expected,” the police official said.
He termed the busting of the module as the major achievement of police.
“The youth involved in the module were working as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and had been tasked by militants to disrupt peace in the area particularly on the highway,” he said.
The officials said that the accused youth had been regularly getting arms from the militants.

Meanwhile, sources said, Army has been installing CCTV camera in many area of the town including on the highway.
