The
normal class work in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) is
likely to resume from April 25 while the administration is also mulling
to conduct minor-1 examination from May 5-8 for the students who could
not sit for the same exams conducted from April 11-16.
The decisions have been taken in a high level meeting convened by
Director NIT Rajat Gupta on April 16 and attended by Deans, Heads of the
Departments (HoDs), Proctorial Staff, DPE, Coordinator 1st and 2nd
semesters; Associate Deans and Registrar.
The administration has also rescheduled Extra-Curricular Activities
(ECA) calendar. “Since the minor-I examination ended on April 16, it
was decided to conduct the ECA from 18 to 22,” reads the minutes of the
meeting, adding that the normal class work will resume from April 25.
“If required, classes will be conducted on Saturdays also in order to compensate the losses.”
The administration has also decided to reschedule Minor-2
examination which was earlier scheduled from May 16-19. “In view of
another examination for Minor-1, there will be very short gap for the
Minor-2. So Minor-2 examination will be conducted from May 26-29,” reads
the minutes of the meeting.
Meanwhile, the fact finding committee has submitted its interim
report to the administration wherein it has mentioned the sequence of
events which triggered violence on the campus.
As per the minutes of the meeting, the fact finding committee
headed by Dean Student Welfare Dr. Abdul Liman said the further process
will be expedited to compile a complete report of the incident that
erupted in the institute following the defeat of Indian cricket team
against West Indies during the T20 world cup.
Moreover, in order to make the Student Redressal Committee all
inclusive, Roohie Naaz, Professor Department of Computer Science
Engineering has been nominated as Member-Convener in place of Dr. Abdul
Liman, Dean Student Welfare.
“The final report of the fact finding committee will be compiled
after resumption of the class work in the campus when all the non local
students will return from their homes.”
Clashes erupted in NIT on April 1 following the defeat of Indian
cricket team against West Indies in the semi-final of T-20 world cup.
Later situation turned ugly which forced the authorities to suspend the
class work for some days and the non-local students were allowed to go
home. The state government has ordered a time-bound magisterial probe
into the incident.
