Woman’s death sparks protests in Kangan

Protests erupted in Kangan area here on Monday after a woman was found dead due to bullet injuries in her home.
Local residents said that Ghulam Hassan Chowhan, a BSF constable of 193 BN, allegedly killed his wife, Nazira Begum by shooting her with his personal 12-bore gun after a scuffle between the two at their home in Satrina Kangan.
Muhammad Omar Shah, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kangan, told Greater Kashmir that there was a single bullet injury caused by 12-bore gun in the chest of the deceased and preliminary investigation revealed that she has been shot dead.
"We have recovered the 12-bore gun and detained the accused husband of the deceased," the DSP said.
The investigations have been taken up after registering a case under FIR No. 31/2016 under section 302 RPC and 7/25 Arms Act.
Soon after the postmortem of the body was conducted at sub district hospital Kangan, the relatives of the deceased staged protests and placed the body in the middle of the road and blocked Srinagar-Leh highway in the main market.

Later, ADC Ganderbal and police reached the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring action according to law.
